Jim has spent twenty years on the land side of energy: shale, conventional, solar, wind, and power.

He came up through real estate, first licensed in North Carolina in 2005, and moved into natural gas in the late 2000s, working every phase of resource development: site selection, permitting, right of way, leasing, title, and business development.

At one of the largest natural gas producers in the United States, he supervised more than fifty in-house and contract leasing agents and assembled over 50,000 acres of new leasehold. He later led a business development team that originated, analyzed, negotiated, and closed joint ventures, joint operating agreements, acquisitions, divestitures, and trades valued up to $250MM with some of the largest energy firms in the world.

Today he runs Stout Property LLC, working land, title, and minerals for operators, investors, and owners, and advising on site development for power and data center projects. His work runs from the Appalachian Basin to the Powder River Basin, with solar and transmission-corridor projects in Oklahoma and Kansas. He also works the technology side of the business, building GIS and data pipelines for land diligence and advising software companies developing tools for land and energy professionals.

He holds a degree from Penn State University, is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, and is a licensed Pennsylvania real estate salesperson affiliated with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, where he sells residential real estate alongside his wife, Jennifer.

He works out of the Pittsburgh area and is usually on the Allegheny River when he isn’t working.
